Save Money and Have Good Coffee

Wednesday May 16, 2007
Remember the other day I was talking about money saved being like free money? If you are a coffee drinker there are ways you can save money and still enjoy your coffee. Our Coupons and Bargains Guide, Donna, just wrote an article dealing with Starbucks' "secret" coffee size and the advantages of ordering it. It seems that this is a case where short is better than tall. Donna also talks about a recent taste test done by Consumer Reports and her own personal coffee taste test. Both Donna and Consumer Reports found that McDonalds can make a mean cup of coffee that is cheaper than the Starbucks' alternative. However, Donna found that McDonalds' coffee is not always fresh.

As an avid coffee drinker myself, I would concur with these findings. Especially in the morning when it is always fresh, McDonalds's coffee beats Starbucks in taste and price. However, if you really want to save some serious money you should make your own coffee at home when you can. I use my Senseo pod brewer (that I got free by the way) and it makes great coffee with Maxwell House or Folgers pods. Not only is the coffee good -- it also only costs me about twenty cents per cup and takes less time than stopping at the coffee shop.
