I have had to learn to type fast to save time since I do spend a lot of time typing. However, I still have clumsy fingers and make mistakes. Actually, I am very surprised that my backspace key has not worn out yet since it is by far the most used key on my keyboard.
TypingTest.com has some great free resources to help all of us to learn to type better and type faster. I think their free typing games are great fun. You almost forget that you are working on improving your typing skills.
They also have a free online typing test that you can use to gauge you typing speed and accuracy. You can also download their free TypingMaster software for more free typing games, more typing practice, and more accurate typing tests.

On the topic of free typing games, may I also suggest you check out The Keyboard Playground which has over 10 original typing games and tests.
I would check out RankMyTyping.com also. I think you will like it better.
