Cream of Wheat Sample

Thursday January 8, 2009
When I was a kid (late Cretaceous period) I loved oatmeal. Well -- actually I loved the half pound of brown sugar I put in it. The oatmeal was just a substrate. However, I don't think I ever tasted Cream of Wheat. It would have probably also been a good excuse for eating a half pound of brown sugar.

Now I will finally have a chance to try Cream of Wheat with this free sample offer from B&G Foods. Unfortunately, I no longer eat much sugar, so I don't expect to be eating it the way I would have back in the Cretaceous period.

Wow! I love this site. Amazing that you mentioned oat meal. I can’t knock it though, because I’ve loved it eternally, and I’m quite old now (New AARP Member). Strangely though, my mother lived by the myth that it was medicinal and that all children either ate it or evaporated at some point in time. However, liking it, has proven an asset because guess what, in my adultood, I’ve been told that cholesterol can be controlled by oat meal. So, I’m loving it all over after many years break.

As regards Cream of Wheat, my 8-yr old son loves it (bonding time) when we cook cream of wheat together on Saturday mornings and he gets to pick all the exotic ingredients that make it ummy. For my son’s sake, I’m going for that free sample. More than anything else, its free!

I HAVE BEEN EATING CREAM OF WHEAT ALL OF MY LIFE(55 YRS).THE FIRST TIME I RAN ACROSS GRITS WAS AT A RESTAURANT IN FT. POLK, LA. I ASKED MY DAD WHAT THEY WERE. HE TOLD ME TO PUT BUTTER AND SUGAR ON THEM AND PRETEND THEY WERE CREAM OF WHEAT. THAT’S THE WAY I STILL EAT MY GRITS AND MY CREAM OF WHEAT ALSO.

I have been eating cream of wheat or oatmeal all my life and that is a long time as I will be 60 next month. As a young child my mother always made the family (5 kids and my parents) either hot oatmeal or cream of wheat every Saturday morning, so I have come to love it and make it part of my breakfast quite often.

Post to Debbie the one who went to Ft. Polk….When i moved from NY I lived in Leesville for a while then moved about 50 miles west of Leesville (Ft. Polk…talk about small world….lol…But grits are known to some as Polanta just that grits are white cornmeal, grits are good with cheddar cheese so a lot of people say…..i like mine with butter. Grits are good and economical and very filling. Quick breakfast or even a good snack, i even eat grits for lunch from time to time.
But, i was surprised to see someone else knows about such a small part of lousyana. Hope you ate at the Japaneses resturant there, they make real good fried rice there, well all their food is great!

I Love Hot Cereal & Haven’t had any in way too long so I Jumped on this sample .
Sugar & Butter will suit me just fine on any of the hot cereals mentioned.Sometimes milk too .
I’ve never has Cheese Grits but lke them plain with butter or bacon fat & maybe a little salt. I will gladly eat them any time of day or night .
My late Mom also used dry hot cereal in her meat loaf & bread & the cream of wheat or grits in her potato & or split pea soup.
I wish all of you could have tasted them .
