What is the L'Oreal Consumer Testing Program Actually Like?

Do you want to get free L'Oreal makeup and skin products, while helping them decide what new products consumers like you need? If you do, you'll want to check out the L'Oreal product testing program.

Visit the L'Oreal Consumer Testing Program sign-up page to join. You'll need to answer some basic questions about yourself, as well as fill out a profile that they can use to match you to certain skincare, hair, and makeup studies. Once you join you'll be taken to your dashboard where you can view your available surveys, account information, and any studies that you're currently signed up for.

The most important area on your dashboard when you're getting started with the L'Oreal Consumer Testing Program is Available Surveys. This where you can take surveys and qualify to be in a product test study.  Answer honestly when you're taking a survey. They test all sorts of products and if you don't qualify to test one of them, you'll qualify for one in the future. Sometimes you'll get emailed when you have a survey available, but sometimes they'll just show up on your dashboard. It really pays to take the surveys as soon as they're up—otherwise, you probably won't end up getting anything. Often, people get frustrated at not getting products, but it's because they're not taking the surveys.

Byrdie Tip

It's important to log-in at least a few times a week and check for surveys because the L'Oreal Consumer Testing Program accepts the first people who fill out the survey and also match the profile they're looking for.

When you get accepted to test a product, you'll get an email giving you all the details. All the studies work a little bit differently but they'll probably give you dates and instructions for testing the products. Look in your mailbox for the products you're going to test over the next week or two. You'll receive complete instructions, as well as the product to try. Be sure to read the instructions and follow the testing procedure exactly. L'Oreal is looking at every aspect of the product and they want you to use it in a particular way.

At the end of the testing period, and sometimes throughout, you'll get a survey that asks for you to give your opinion about the product. Be sure to fill this out, because it's the key to qualifying for more studies. It's important to be completely honest during the survey, L'Oreal wants to hear all the opinions, both good and bad. The feedback you give them makes their products even better. Honest and detailed answers will get closer to a spot in the next product testing opportunity.

Through the L'Oreal Consumer Testing Program, you'll get to test and keep hair care, hair styling, hair color, cosmetics, skincare, and sun care products. You'll be testing L'Oreal brand products, but you'll also be testing products from the other beauty and skincare companies that the L'Oreal Group owns including Garnier, Kiehl's, Urban Decay, Lancome, Maybelline, Redken, Keratase, SkinCeuticals, Matrix, Shu Uemura, Carol's Daughter, Miaani, and La Roche-Posay. L'Oreal also often sends out some of their most popular products right off the shelves to thank you for completing a study, in addition to the products you're testing. It's a great way to try out L'Oreal products and products from their other brands.

The L'Oreal Consumer Testing Program is only open to United States residents who are 18 and over. Both men and women are welcome to participate. From their survey questions, it seems like they won't choose people who have any business dealings with L'Oreal, are pregnant or breastfeeding, or are under a dermatologist's care.

L'Oreal has on-site testing opportunities in New Jersey, Ohio, and Illinois. If you live in one of these areas you may be asked to come in for some on-site testing opportunities. These work much line online product testing but you'll get to share your opinion in real-time with the person interviewing you. You'll get to try some free products, have some fun, and maybe even make some cash.
