Avoiding Registration on Information Sites

Good idea or bad ethical choice?

From Lee Seats, for About.com

Tired of registering on information sites and newspaper websites to read an article or two? BugMeNot.com offers a solution if you feel comfortable using it.

Many newspaper sites and other sites offering otherwise free content are requiring that users register and provide varying amounts of personal information. The registration process is usually there so that the sites can offer demographic information to advertisers or and target their ads based on the information.

BugMeNot.com is a database of preregistered accounts to over 4,000 such sites. It is convenient, but is it ethical? That is left for you, the Internet user to decide.
